Bill Gates coupons?
There was a story circulating several years ago (about 10 years ago to be exact) of billionaire Bill Gates at a grocery store. The story claims that he was in the check-out line of one of his local grocery stores and was holding up the rest of the line. Why, you ask? He was emptying his pockets in search of a .50 cent off coupon!!!!!! The man who could buy every home in the Unites States a 50 inch flat screen television was holding up the line to save 50 cents. The man whose net worth THEN was 13 billion dollars was trying to save half a dollar on his ice cream purchase. If a billionaire cares that much to save so little, why wouldn’t you and I?
I mean, the thought of this actually happening is mind boggling. But it drives home one of my life mottos. MY MONEY IS MINE!!!!!!! No matter how much or how little I make, it’s mine once I earn it. So, I will do everything I can to keep as much of it as I can. Bargains and deals are a means to do exactly that – to continue getting what I need/want but do so at the cheapest price possible so that I can keep as much of my hard earned money as I can. It’s so easy to think of coupons as just paper. But change your mindset. If you wouldn’t throw away 2 quarters, then a .50 cent off coupon on a product you will buy is worth keeping and protecting with the same fervor you would the actual monetary value. Many will argue that it’s not worth the effort. But it is because using it leaves that extra .50 cents in your bank account instead of the pockets of someone else. And if you do it on a large scale, then your savings increase exponentially.
Take a few moments out of your day to look for a deal before you buy something in a hurry. Invest a minute to clip a coupon on the snacks your son eats every week. Look for a coupon code before you make that online purchase of jeans at the GAP. Stop and peruse the ad before you fill your cart to the brim with items that are not on sale. Study the market trends before you buy a house. Scope out the dealership before you drive off with your new car. Turn on your bargain specialist radar and save in every possible way. Your bank account will thank you in the long run.
If Bill Gates with all his wealth could care about .50 cents, then in comparison, you and I should care about just penny savings. Your money is yours!! Do everything you can to keep as much of it as you can while still getting all you want/need.
